Our Greener Values

But, we aim to minimise our impact on the world around us. We care deeply about the future for everyone; for animals, human beings, and our environment.

After all, to coin a phrase, there is no Planet B.

Crossways seeks to reduce, reuse and recycle wherever we can. Here are some of the keen ways we’re doing our bit for a more sustainable way of working and living:

Recycling and waste disposal

As you would imagine, we can’t avoid waste – in all its forms. Therefore, we concentrate hard on our waste disposal processes. Our focus is to ensure that we carry this out with enormous care and attention to minimise pollution or harm to our natural resources.

With a vigorous company-wide policy, we’re committed recyclers. In fact, it’s almost a Crossways law: if we can recycle it, we will – each and every time.

Water use

Again, we must use water. And, to be honest, we use more than the average business.

Water helps to keep the animals we look after clean and hydrated, and to keep their accommodation – and our centre itself – spotless. Not to mention the water in our wonderful hydrotherapy pool. But, we’re meticulous with its use, and fastidious about maximising efficiencies.

Energy

We’re moving towards electricity as a single source of power, plus everything we use is 100% renewable.

Watch this space. The next time you visit us, look out for the solar panels on the roof.

Our environment

Your dog will love exercising in our nearby field, with plenty of re-wilded areas in our sixteen-acre space. This area is completely unspoilt – almost untouched by human hand, you could say. Our special woodland has never been farmed. No chemicals, not then. Not ever.

Local suppliers

Crossways is going local. Actually, we insist on it. Drawing on the resources, services and skills of suppliers within a limited radius doesn’t just support our community and local economy. With a fewer-miles philosophy, it also reduces Crossways’ carbon footprint.

Likewise, this enables us to use less petrol, keeping costs down and produce fewer emissions.

What our customers say

3 weeks

Highly recommend Crossways. They look after my dogs so well when they stay. They stayed there for a 3 week period when we got married and went on honeymoon and more recently when we moved house as we wanted them to be away from the stress that moving day can bring. When we drop them off, they happily trot down to the kennels with the staff. Really happy with Crossways, lovely team of caring people.

Gavin & Bear Taylor

The girls here are lovely, Bear always comes here for his haircut, wash and cuddles. It’s well worth the 50 mile round trip knowing when he’s left here he’s being well looked after and spoilt by all the crossways team. Gavin & Bear

Meet the team

Emma Cleanthi.

Hi. I’m Emma and together with my Husband and daughters, we run Crossways. Here is how we ended up in our dream jobs!  My daughter Molly was working in the kennels and hydrotherapy centre and was loving it. I was of course totally envious of Molly working with the animals and in such a beautiful setting, I knew I wanted to work here to. Luckily I got a job on reception and settled in quickly. After a while the owners suggested that they were ready to retire, which was the chance we had been waiting for. We decided that we were ready to make a lifechanging decision and take over the business. We moved in with our 4 daughters and have not looked back since, we are loving the opportunity. I have always been passionate about animals and dogs in particular so this is a dream come true for me. The team are key in maintaining our 5 star rating and together with our passion and energy we can only improve. You will often find me in reception and I look forward to meeting you and your fur babies.

Gillian Norman

Hi, I’m Gillian and I started at Crossways in September 2003 working weekends, and when I finished school in 2005 I became full-time. I was part of Crossways whilst the hydrotherapy centre was being developed and completed a City and Guilds level 1 and 2 in Small Animal Hydrotherapy.  The hydrotherapy industry has changed a lot since then, and I have completed further training in line with this, achieving my level 3 ABC award in 2013.I have spent many years caring for several generations of family pets in the kennels, cattery and hydrotherapy pool.

I have 1 cheeky terrier and 3 springer spaniels at home along with rabbits and guinea pigs.  I like to spend lots of time with my dogs doing agility, hoopers, scentwork and trick training.

Suzi Flynn

Hi, my name is Suzi.  I’ve worked at Crossways for 16 years, I started as a weekender in 2003 but have been full time for the last 7 years.  I attended Merrist Wood Agricultural College for 4 years where I completed a National Diploma and Foundation Degree in Animal Management. I’ve been a level 3 qualified Hydrotherapist for 9 years, completing courses in animal first aid, anatomy and physiology.

My days at Crossways are made up of duties in the kennels, cattery and hydrotherapy pool.  I own a collie called Belle and a Golden Retriever called Omlette (silly name to match her silly nature).

Over the years I have owned 6 rescue dogs from different rescue centres such as Battersea dogs home and PNH in Ireland.  I feel very lucky to have this job and love spending my days with the animals and the Crossways team.  I’m currently expecting my first baby who I hope in years to come will be a weekender here too.

Molly Silvester

Hi my name is Molly.  I have been part of the Crossways team since September 2017.  It has always been a passion of mine to work with animals and I was over the moon when I was accepted into the Crossways family.  Recently me and my family moved and we now live in the house on Crossways Farm where we run the kennel, cattery and hydrotherapy centre.

I have 2 cheeky cocker spaniels, a chunky lab, a fat cat and a gorgeous collie cross retriever!  My days are spent busy down in the kennels and cattery.  I’m also a level 3 certificate Hydrotherapist.  I love my job, all the doggies are always so happy to see everyone. I enjoy opportunities to learn more about them and I find the hydrotherapy very rewarding.

Lauren Holmes

Hello, I’m Lauren and I originally started working at Crossways in October 2015, but I left to do voluntary youth work in Lewisham.  I came back to work at Crossways in October 2018 and have since done my level 3 Hydrotherapy course. I spend my day in the kennels, cattery and Hydrotherapy pool.

I always had my heart set on having a Rhodesian Ridgeback but in March 2017 I rescued a Parson’s Russell cross breed named Rafferty, he is my first ever dog and a challenge, but he has become my best companion.  I also have a cat called Pepper who lives at my mum’s house as him and the dog aren’t great friends.  I spend most of my time with my dog exploring new walks.

Sarah Ford

Hello, I’m Sarah and I joined the Crossways team on 8th of September 2006. At first I was helping out on weekends and days off but before long I was asked if I would like to join the team full time, and of course I jumped at the chance of working with all of our clients fur babies!

A few years passed and I really enjoyed the grooming side of things (and the kennels of course) so I have now been grooming since 2012 and love making our client’s dogs look beautiful.

I currently own a Rottweiler called Xena, we took her on at 8 months old; a Patterdale called Jack, we got when he was 6 months old; and last but not least we have a Pomeranian called Dennis, we got him when he was 6 years old.  We had three dogs before these and they all lived to a good age (I do still miss them all).

Helen Bellingham-Curtis

Hi, my name is Helen.  I’ve been at Crossways for 25 years and these days I can usually be found grooming dogs!  I also do general kennel work and my Saturday rotation in the Hydrotherapy Centre.  I enjoy the variety it offers and take great pride and pleasure in my work.

I have 3 dogs of my own; the baby..Ted; the clown..Orla and the boss..Larch.  I grew up with dogs and a menagerie of other animals, so naturally my first job was in kennels when I was 13.  I then worked in a local pet shop before starting here full-time aged 19!

Being around animals has always been my life.  I couldn’t imagine working anywhere else, Crossways is an extended family which is what makes it such a happy environment for our boarders and day visitors alike!

Michelle Mchugh

Hi, I’m Michelle and I started in May 2019. You will generally find me in the Crossways reception either chatting to owners, on the phone or running mini marathons to the kennels and back.  I spend a lot of my time greeting all our customer’s adorable pets when they arrive and seeing the excitement and joy of them reuniting with their families after their stay with us.

Crossways is a dream place to work as it’s not every day you get to cuddle dogs and fuss cats, as well as work with amazing people.

I have a fur baby of my own. Buddy my Rough Collie who hates getting up in the mornings.

Helen Markham

Hi, my name is Helen and I am the new Practice Manager.

Nerina Wayland

Hi, my name is Nerina and you will find me at Crossways Reception.

What our customers say

Hydro

My elderly Cairn Terrier has now had 6 sessions of Hydrotherapy following a complex operation to repair a ruptured cruciate ligament in the left hind leg. The bone had to be severed and reset followed by cage rest and introducing exercise slowly. Hydrotherapy is now helping to build up his muscles for a stronger leg. He has had three therapists who have all been lovely and made a big fuss of him. The water and the treadmill were introduced slowly so that he could get used to them and not be scared. The length of time on the treadmill increases each week and he is now stepping out strongly. He enters the treatment room with enthusiasm and looks forward to a few treats along the way.

Alfie

We have been using Crossways since 2011, for both our rescue spaniels. Our first dog used the hydrotherapy pool for his arthritis which was very beneficial and he also came to stay. We very happily continued to use Crossways when we got Alfie, our energetic spaniel. He comes in regularly for fun swims, grooming and to stay. He loves the girls and is always pleased to see them.

Mrs Howell

I can not speak highly about not just the therapists , whom I have had the pleasure of meeting Gillian and Mollie, but all the hardworking ladies at Crossways. This has been a new experience for myself and my dog Bill who was referred from our vets for hydrotherapy and has just had his third session of which the difference from a dog with his eyes nearly out on stalks and shaking with fear to this week was phenomenal. This is down to the patience and expertise of the girls and all I can say is Thank you and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Kennels

Kennels

Here at Crossways Kennels in Surrey, when it comes to handing over the care of your  beloved dog, trust is everything. And, confidence.

Being able to switch off to enjoy your well-deserved holiday or weekend away streamlines your mind. It smooths away your worries. It Teflons your downtime.

We have the experience, knowledge, and expertise that you need.

And, an endless, boundless love of dogs that makes all the difference. We’re ahead of the curve, anticipating your questions and concerns with know-how and empathy.

Crossways is licenced to accommodate up to 70 dogs.

Facilities and On-Boarding

Your dog requires outstanding, five-star family protection. Nothing else will do.

So, these aren’t just normal kennels. This is Crossways Kennels, with accommodation standards second to none. Bring your dog to us and before you jet off on holiday, we’ll agree with you:

  • Diet (including any special food they may need)
  • Health and/or health issues
  • Medication
  • Toilet routines
  • Exercise and play needs – every dog is different

In fact, everything you could think of for doggy happiness and comfort. This initial assessment at handover is thorough, and in-depth.

Why?

Because your dog’s welfare means everything to us; literally, everything. Crossways wants you to ENJOY your hard-earned break, safe in the knowledge that your dog is in the best possible hands.

Holiday Time for Your Dog at Crossways

During his or her stay, there’s plenty of time for playtime, walks and loads of fun.

And cuddles, of course. So, we have a high staff-to-dog ratio for maximum attention and care. It’s obvious that dogs need to let off steam, and run around at full pelt. We love to see the joy on their faces.

Each individual, roomy pen has its individual sleeping area, and outside run.

Do bring your dog’s own bedding should you so choose. But don’t worry, we can provide a lovely snuggly bed, with a fleece or a duvet for some sweet dreams.

Nutrition and Care

A well-fed dog is a happy and healthy dog, and we’re pleased to cater for most needs and dietary requirements. We provide good quality wet and dry foods to keep them at their contented best.

Likewise, we ensure that with all that fresh air, they keep hydrated with plenty of water.

Daily, we’ll make full physical checks and if we spot anything, we’ll organise a visit to your local vets and keep you fully informed. Alternatively, we can draw on the expertise of Priory Vets, an independent practice that we know, like and trust.

If your dog requires medication, one of our non-veterinary qualified kennel team will be happy to take on this task. Please supply this in its original packaging from the vets.

Vaccinations & medication

Crossways will only accept our furry friends with up-to-date vaccinations; this is for the welfare of all the animals within our remit. On arrival, we will need evidence that your pet holds a current vaccination certificate.

Do talk to us about vaccinations. These are SO important. They have to be repeated to keep your dog in fine fettle, happy and running around enjoying life to the max.

We are happy to cater for dogs with ongoing medical problems (ie diabetes, epilepsy etc.)

If medication needs to be administered this will be undertaken provided the animal accepts the medication without resistance, and that it can be administered by one of our non veterinary qualified kennel team.

We do not require the kennel cough vaccine. As it is a live vaccine, if you choose to have it; please ensure it is given 14 days before your dog’s arrival.
